Vegetable Working Group
Canadian growers produce a wide array of high-quality vegetables, from asparagus to zucchini, from BC to Newfoundland. The Vegetable Working Group is a collective body made up of growers and representatives from grower associations across Canada who discuss and decide on issues that affect vegetable production.
In collaboration with The Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) staff and industry partners, such as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the group seek to affect policies that improve their ability to grow vegetables.
The Working Group meets once a year during the March Annual General Meeting to consider a wide range of matters pertaining to:
- Promoting information exchange within the Canadian vegetable industry,
- The development of policy advice and recommendations related to Canadian vegetable industry,
- Programs and matters related to the vegetable industry,
- Matters that impact the stability and potential for growth, and
- Other matters and issues as may be deemed appropriate
A Working Group meets during the year to address ongoing issues and matters arising between annual meetings such as plant health issues (sanitary phytosanitary), crop protection, risk management, research and innovation, food safety and traceability and other concerns of common interest.
