Crop Protection Advisory Group

The Crop Protection Advisory Group assembles a dedicated group of The Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada members who possess expertise in the areas of crop protection, plant health and environmental issues, combined with hands-on experience as growers. The Advisory Group meets once a year in March at the Annual General Meeting to deal with a wide range of business including crop protection tools, minor use product registrations, proposed regulatory changes, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) projects, trade irritants, and other concerns.

About Jason Smith, Chair

Jason SmithJason Smith is a fourth-generation blueberry grower who operates a 15-acre farm in Abbotsford, B.C.  He is currently Vice-President of BC Berry Cultivar Development Inc. and is Past-Chair of the BC Blueberry Council. He is also involved with the North American Blueberry Council Finance Committee and the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council Good Agricultural Practices Committee. Jason has also worked off-farm for Terralink Horticulture, a major crop input supply company, for about 13 years, and has been operating PIER Management and Consulting, his own consulting and product supply company, for the last 3.5 years.

Jason operates Fraser Berry Farms with his wife Melissa and two daughters Sophia and Charlie. His family started blueberry farming in the Fraser Valley in 1949.
